About the register

The register is a book of seals. It holds no documents and no personal data. It holds proof that something existed in a given form at a given moment.

Who keeps it

Seals are written by Cyberspace P.S.A. The register runs on the iVoting network in Proof of Authority mode. New entries are approved by a fixed set of nodes. Each entry closes off earlier ones, so replacing an old record invalidates everything written after it.

The network's nodes are currently run by the foundation we work with. They are not institutions independent of one another. An entry already cannot be changed quietly. This guarantee grows stronger with every party that runs its own node.

What goes into the register

Below is what the register holds, with the numbers.

    The seal of a vote result. We seal the whole list of cast votes at once. After closing, no vote can be added or removed. The seal does not show how anyone voted.

  • Trust confirmation

    The seal of an Aura trust confirmation. The register holds the confirmation's fingerprint.

  • Identity confirmation

    The seal of a document confirming identity. The document stays in the app.

  • Sealed document

    The seal of an unsigned document. It confirms the document existed in this form on this date.

    The seal of a signature on a document. The document's contents stay with you.

What is not here

The register holds no personal data.

  • No names, national ID numbers or addresses.
  • No document contents. Only their fingerprints.
  • No record of how anyone voted. We seal the whole list of votes at once.
  • A record number cannot be traced back to a person.

What if Cyberspace disappears

The seals stay on the network. They do not sit on our servers. Your documents stay with you, because we never sent them to the register. Checking a seal needs access to the network. This page is not required for it.

Common questions

Can you see how I voted?

No. We seal the whole list of cast votes at once, as a single fingerprint. Neither an individual vote nor the person who cast it can be taken back out of it. The seal proves that nobody added or removed a vote after voting closed.

Can I delete my entry from the register?

No. An entry that could be deleted would not be proof. The register holds none of your data, only a fingerprint and a date. Documents and personal data stay outside the register and are covered by ordinary rights, including the right to erasure.

What does fingerprint mean?

It is a short string computed from a file or an event. The same file always gives the same fingerprint. Changing one comma gives a completely different one. The content cannot be reconstructed from it, so the fingerprint can be published while the document stays with you.

Why a blockchain, if we could trust you?

So that trust is not required. If we kept the seals in our own database, we could change them without your knowledge. A record in the register can be checked without us.

Do I need an account to check something?

No. This page has no sign-in and collects no data about visitors. You enter a number or point at a file and get an answer.

Is a seal an electronic signature?

No. A seal proves a document existed in this form at a given moment and has not changed since. A signature is a separate layer. A document can be both signed and sealed.
